Matthew Lee
Associate Director

“I enjoy the diversity that my role offers: not only different clients in different sectors but also wide-ranging transactions including Class 1 transactions, equity raises, capital markets days, acquisitions, delisting and a change in reporting cycle. I doubt you’d get that breadth and depth of experience anywhere else.”

What has your career been to date, and how have you become part of the Equitory team?

My career began at Lloyds Banking Group in 2015 in capital markets, working across product teams, whereafter I supported the Group CFO and then transitioned into Equity Investor Relations. This was my first experience of IR and I was fortunate in learning from the best building solid foundation for a future career in IR. I also worked in Corporate Treasury, Debt IR including responsibility for Rating Agencies.
Working in Debt IR gave me another unique insight into IR. Bondholder communication and managing debt investors and rating agencies is far more nuanced corporate communications and helped me understand the broader investor landscape far better. I joined Equitory in 2023 and what attracted me to this role is that it would allow me to develop a broader breadth of experience outside of financial services

What do you enjoy most about your role at Equitory?

I enjoy the diversity that my role offers: not only different clients in different sectors but also wide-ranging transactions including Class 1 transactions, equity raises, capital markets days, acquisitions, delisting and a change in reporting cycle. I doubt you’d get that breadth and depth of experience anywhere else.

Have there been opportunities to develop and grow within the company?

Equitory places a strong emphasis on professional development and growth and, being a small business, it naturally means you need to wear many hats and take on tasks that might initially seem beyond your usual scope. This has been a great catalyst for my professional development as it has pushed me to step out of my comfort zone and handle responsibilities that I might not have encountered otherwise, and especially not in a larger organisation. Practical and hands-on experience is invaluable.

What are your favourite things to do outside of work?

Almost exclusively sport. I am a Leeds United season ticket holder and my family and I make every effort to attend all the games. I also love watching tennis and Formula live. I have a lifetime goal of visiting two-thirds of the world’s countries and have currently been to 72, so a bit of a way to go!
